Our Bottles
Why We Chose Plastic (for Now)
Not perfect, but better.
When we launched Rogue Oat, we spent a lot of time thinking about sustainable oat milk packaging. There’s no perfect answer—but right now, plastic works best for us.
Here's why:
1. It’s Easier to Recycle
We use HDPE plastic bottles—one of the easiest and most widely recycled plastics in the UK. Most councils collect it from home.
Tetra Pak cartons? Made of layered materials (cardboard, plastic, aluminium), they need specialist recycling—and not every area can do that. So while they can be recycled, many aren’t.
2. Lower Carbon Footprint Than Glass
Glass sounds eco-friendly, but it’s energy-intensive to make and transport. For it to beat plastic on emissions, a glass bottle needs to be reused 20 times. Most only survive 18. So from a carbon footprint point of view, HDPE is the better option for us.
3. Lighter, Tougher, and Easier to Transport
Plastic bottles need less packaging and weigh less, which means we can move more per trip—cutting down on fuel and emissions.
4. Bigger Bottles, Less Waste
Our 2-litre bottles mean more oat milk per pack. Less packaging overall = a lighter footprint.
We’re not saying plastic is perfect—but when it comes to eco-friendly oat milk with lower emissions, better recycling, and less waste, it’s the best fit for now.
And we’ll keep reviewing, because sustainability is a journey—not a checkbox.
